Evolution Of Dub is a series of box sets from Greensleeves exploring key moments in the Evolution Of Dub, The journey begins at the dawn of dub with Joe Gibbs mega-rare “Dub Serial” from 1973 before exploring the ground-breaking, speaker-shaking work of the key players in dub including King Tubby, Prince Jammy, Bunny Lee etc. before bringing the story right up to date with a brand new 2009 dub set from producer Shane Brown. All sets come with illustrated booklets featuring informative sleeve notes from reggae historian Noel Hawkes.
The Evolution Of Dub Vol.1 – The Origin Of Species
The first in a series of seven, four CD box sets spotlighting key moments in the evolution of dub. Box one focuses on the roots of dub bringing together four foundation classics from the golden age of versions that gathers together many of the main players from dubs big bang moments. Joe Gibbs ‘Serial Dub’ from 1973 is one of the true foundation stones of dub, recorded at Randy’s with Errol Thompson at the controls. Two crucial dub box sets from King Tubby are included ‘Dub From The Roots’ from 1974 and ‘The Roots Of Dub’ from 1975, produced by Bunny Lee. The final disc is Niney The Observer’s ‘Dubbing With The Observer’ from 1975.

The Evolution Of Dub Vol.2 – The Great Leap Forward
Box two continues the focus on the roots of dub bringing together four foundation classics from the golden age of version gathering together three longtime classic sets from Bunny Lee plus Niney The Observers legendary ‘Sledgehammer Dub’. The spotlight here falls on the crucial three – The Aggrovators, The Revolutionaries & The Soul Syndicate with major player involvement from King Tubby, Sly & Robbie etc. ‘Brass Rockers’ and ‘Afrovators Meets The Revolutioners At Channel One Studio’ are both horn soaked sub workouts that stand up as outstanding examples of the the genre while ‘Rasta Dub 76’ showcases the ruling flying cymble dub style of the day. Niney’s ‘Sledgehammer Dub’ was once one of the holy grails of dub having only a limited 300 copy pressing, now it’s available to all, it’s a heavy heavy monster sound with each track displaying the power awesome of version.
