RAS DANIEL RAY

Born in St Catherine, Jamaica, from a family of twelve children, Ras Daniel Ray started to sing in church by the age of five.
The name "Ray" was given to him by his father. "Ray" like "doh", "ray", "me", the first tones of the major scale, which already predestined him with a long musical career.
Echo Tone is his first Sound, but it is Kilamandjaro Sound System, in 1990, which revealed him to the island’s public, all through a jamaican Tour, where he shared the stage with Ninjaman, Supercat, Shabba Ranks and more. In that time, he recorded his first track, Bubbling Pot" for Sunset Records at Harry J Studio, in Kingston, under the name of Sugar Ray.
With Jah Love Music Sound, Ras Daniel Ray went more spiritual and worked with artists like Brigadier Jerry, Sista Carol, Culture Dan, Josey Wale, Charly Chaplin, Garnett Silk, Tony Rebel, Luciano and more. His appearances multiplied, with great participation to Reggae Sunsplash and Selassie Brothers Festival.
Sharing stage with Dennis Brown, John Holt and Sangi Davis, a Swiss promoter invited Ras Daniel Ray on a European Tour (Switzerland, Italy, France). He was then invited to Spain, Portugal, England, Belgium, Sweden, Germany and Ethiopia. From that time on, he has continued to generate his career in Europe.
In England, he recorded for Mafia & Fluxy, Reggae on Top, Apex Music and Jet Star. More recently, he worked with Nucleous Roots, UK, and recorded the so called "Olympic" track with Mungos Hi Fi, in Scotland.
The first connection with Tu Shung Peng goes back to about ten years ago. Over the years, the original French backing band and the Jamaican artist have been developing into a formation where Ras Daniel Ray has become the Lead singer for the band.
Two compilation albums from Tu Shung Peng, "Around Tu Shung Peng" & "Trouble Time", featuring Ras Daniel Ray and produced by Ku Shung, are available on Makasound Label (2008).
